On June 28, 2012, the Austin City Council approved Chapter 15-6, Article 3, which governs private solid waste collection within the city.

Under this ordinance:

All construction waste hauling must be performed by a licensed private hauler
Use of unlicensed services may result in fines up to $2,000
Violations may carry criminal penalties, including potential jail time
Property owners, developers, and contractors may be held responsible
